What Sue Is About
Amos Kollek's film follows a woman left alone in New York. Sue has lost her job, is looking for work and cannot hold on to anyone. The relationship that starts with a man she meets in a restaurant breaks off when he leaves the country. Then she is evicted and moves into a cheap hotel. The city swallows her slowly, and Sue goes to increasingly unprotected places just to have some human contact. The film neither diagnoses her nor rescues her; it looks at what loneliness does to a person. It won the international critics' prize in Berlin, with Anna Thomson's performance at the centre of it.
