What Summer Is About

Shaun and Daz were lively, curious boys, and school wasted both of them. All they had was each other and Shaun’s first love, Katy. Labelled a violent bully, Shaun destroyed himself and took Daz down with him. Twelve years on, Shaun is a man who never learned to read, caring for Daz, who is now quadriplegic. With Daz close to death, Shaun is forced back into the summer that decided everything. Kenneth Glenaan’s low-budget film carries dyslexia, adult illiteracy and the position of unpaid carers all at once. Robert Carlyle plays Shaun and Steve Evets plays Daz, and it won best film and best director at the BAFTA Scotland awards.
