Summer of '62

The year is 1962 and Algeria is on the edge of independence. The film takes place in the last spring before that summer. Ali is a boy of eleven. His father is among those fighting for independence. Ali’s closest friend is Nico. Nico is the son of a French family. The two of them go around the town together. They watch the change around them from inside daily life. These are the final weeks of colonial rule. Attacks go back and forth. The world of the adults is hardening. French families are preparing to leave. Ali knows it and does not say so. Nico behaves as though he will never go. Both of them choose to keep the game up. Ali Hamada and Thomas Millet appear in the ninety two minute film, an Algerian and French co-production Mehdi Charef finished in 2007.
