What Suntan Is About
The comedy tag is misleading; this is not a cheerful beach film. Kostis, a doctor in his forties, arrives to take over the small clinic on the island of Antiparos. In winter the island is empty; in summer it fills with tourists. When Kostis meets Anna, who is nineteen, and her circle of friends, he tries to insert himself into their world. What follows turns into obsession, and the film walks step by step to somewhere very uncomfortable. Argyris Papadimitropoulos directed. There is nudity, sexual violence and humiliation in it. A merciless film about ageing and being refused.
