The year is 1958 and the place a small provincial town in Sweden. A band plays dance music twice a week. Every decision is made by Sven Klang, the band’s undisputed leader. Lasse, a saxophone player, joins them. He begins to criticise the decisions and questions how the money is divided. He also wants the band to play more jazz. So a musical preference turns into a question of power. The film uses a provincial band as a model of a small society. The hundred and fourteen minutes are spread over several months.
