What Term of Trial Is About
Graham Weir, a schoolmaster with a drinking problem who is looked down on for having refused to serve in the war, is despised even by his wife Anna. Shirley, one of the young pupils in his class, becomes attached to him and makes an open approach on a school trip; flattered though he is, Weir refuses her. Rejected, the girl then accuses him of assaulting her, and the matter goes to court, where the town has already made up its mind. The film shows the man’s innocence but leaves nobody one-dimensional.
