Strange things start happening in neighbouring houses on one street in Buenos Aires. Clara hears threatening voices from her kitchen sink and is found dead soon after, suspended in mid-air. Her neighbour Walter is fighting something tall and invisible in his house. A boy killed in a bus accident on the same street turns up days later sitting at his mother Alicia's kitchen table. The paranormal investigators Jano and Dr Mora Albreck argue that the neighbourhood is a gateway to another dimension and that the entities travel through the tap water. Demian Rugna wrote and directed. The film builds fear through images rather than explanation; the scene with the dead boy at the table is the clearest example, working without a single sound effect. Rotten Tomatoes sits at 83 percent. Vulture called it an absolutely excellent tale of the supernatural, praising the deaths and the creature effects and comparing it to Insidious and The Conjuring. In December 2018 Guillermo del Toro came on to produce a remake for Fox Searchlight. As of April 2026 the project has moved to Warner Bros with Noah Hawley attached to direct. Rugna has also been developing a sequel. Who it is for: viewers who like horror that explains nothing and goes straight for the fright. Who it is not for: anyone looking for depth of character. The film is built to produce scenes and moves on without introducing anybody.
