Test Paper

The school year opens with a written exam set by the teacher Socrates on the theme of what he would be like if he were the form master. Socrates’s popularity among the pupils makes the mathematics teacher Isoscel uneasy. But Socrates has a worry of his own: his daughter Anca, who is in love. The film gives the school not as a place of discipline but as a place where two adults see what they lack. The account does not belittle what the young people feel and does not make fools of the teachers either. It is among the known examples of the youth film mould in Romanian cinema of 1987, and part of a series. Stefan Banica Jr. and Oana Sirbu appear in Nicolae Corjos’s ninety two minute Romanian film, completed in 1987.
