What That Summer in Paris Is About
Valentine Cadic's 2025 French film is set in Paris during the 2024 Olympic Games. Blandine, thirty, comes from Normandy to watch the swimming; the crowds, the plans that will not hold and an unexpected reunion turn the trip into something else. The film uses the Olympics as background and never shows the main event. Blandine keeps going to the wrong place, arriving late and failing to find tickets; the narrative lists these mishaps without dramatising them. The tone is light and the humour observational. Blandine Madec leads and her character is not incompetent, only unprepared. It is Cadic's first feature and the scale is deliberately small. Who it's for: those who like small-scale French comedy. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a film about the Olympics; the events are barely seen.
