What The 5-Man Army Is About
During the Mexican Revolution a mercenary assembles a team of five at the request of local revolutionaries. Each of them is a specialist: explosives, blades, strength, speed. The target is an army train carrying half a million dollars in gold. Most of the film is the question of how to take that train, and the plan is built one piece at a time. Don Taylor directs, with Bud Spencer and the Japanese actor Tetsuro Tamba in the group. It belongs to the heist branch of the spaghetti western, and Ennio Morricone wrote the score. For anyone who likes an assembled-team picture, the template is familiar and enjoyable.
