The Adventures of Buratino

Carlo the carpenter carves a wooden boy out of a log and names him Buratino. The boy is sent off to school and instead sells his alphabet book to get into the puppet theatre. The theatre belongs to the cruel Karabas-Barabas. Buratino makes friends with the puppets and gets five gold coins out of him. On the road, Alice the Fox and Basilio the Cat trick him out of the money. Then Tortila the tortoise gives him a golden key. What that key opens is what Karabas has been looking for all his life. Ivan Ivanov-Vano directs, adapting Aleksey Tolstoy's book. Sixty-eight minutes. The book starts from Pinocchio and changes both its ending and its meaning entirely; it is among the most widely read works in Soviet children's literature.
