Frozen: The Hit Broadway Musical

A recording of the stage version of Frozen. The story is the same: Elsa, unable to control her power, freezes the kingdom and withdraws to the mountains, and her sister Anna goes to bring her back. Michael Grandage directed the stage production and Brett Sullivan directed the filming. It was recorded at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in London, with Samantha Barks as Elsa and Laura Dawkes as Anna. The stage version differs from the animation: Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez wrote twelve new songs for it and parts of the story were expanded. The effects are the interesting part. Elsa's transformation and the raising of the ice palace happen on stage in front of the audience, with the costume change completed in seconds. The recording is multi-camera with the room sound preserved; the audience is audible. It went out on Disney Plus on 20 June 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like musical theatre and the series. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a feature film; this is a stage recording.
