Esther Bejarano What The Aryans Is About
Mo Asumang, the daughter of a German mother and a Ghanaian father, decided after receiving death threats from a racist group to take a camera and go and face the people who sent them. The documentary follows two roads at once: on one side neo-Nazi rallies in Germany, a meeting with Tom Metzger in America and gatherings of the Ku Klux Klan; on the other the actual history of the word Aryan. It sets out that the word goes back to what is now Iran and that it was turned in the nineteenth century into an invented idea of a master race. The director also finds her own grandmother’s Aryan pass. Mo Asumang’s ninety two minute German documentary was completed in 2014.
