The Bamboo Incident

The life of a ten year old Vietnamese boy is turned over by the war. His father goes off to fight with the Viet Cong. The boy stays with his mother and his baby sister. His mother dies from overwork and from not finding treatment for her illness. After that, looking after his sister falls to the boy. He tries to earn money by shining shoes and by whatever other work he can find. All of this goes on until his father comes back. In the film both an American soldier and a Viet Cong soldier are shown defending their own side. Guerrilla tactics and bombing are part of the account too. Raoul Coutard, a combat photographer, directed this French film of 1970, ninety three minutes long.
