What The Beggar Is About
Hasanin is an illiterate villager who goes to the city to try his luck, staying with his uncle. Unable to hold down any job, he decides to go back to the village. On the way he takes shelter for the night in a hostel and works out that it belongs to a gang: an operation that maims people and sends them out to beg in the streets. Hasanin is put to work posing as a blind beggar. The film was sold as an Adel Emam comedy, and what it describes is dark. After its release a group claiming to speak for the peasantry brought a suit against Emam, and the case went in his favour.
