The Body

The body of a wealthy businesswoman disappears from a morgue. Suspicion settles on her much younger husband. Inspector Jaime Peña runs the investigation, and as the night goes on the case gets stranger. It is Oriol Paulo's first feature. José Coronado plays the inspector, Hugo Silva the husband, Belén Rueda the dead woman and Aura Garrido his lover. The solution at the end is this: the inspector and his daughter built the entire scheme together. The reason is a hit-and-run years earlier that killed the inspector's wife, caused by the husband and the woman who has just died. Roger Moore called it a lean, moody and superior horror thriller from Spain. Oriol Paulo was nominated for Best New Director at the 27th Goya Awards. It was remade in several countries, including a 2019 Hindi version with Rishi Kapoor and an Indonesian adaptation in 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like Spanish thrillers that unfold in one night and turn at the end. Who it is not for: anyone with no patience for coincidence. For the scheme to work, a great many things have to land to the minute.
