Mirage

During a 72-hour electrical storm in 1989, as the Berlin Wall comes down, a boy named Nico witnesses a murder and is killed in a car accident while running. Twenty-five years later the same storm returns and another family discovers they can speak to young Nico through an old television set. Saving him rewrites the present entirely. Oriol Paulo uses time travel not as science fiction but as a thriller mechanism. Adriana Ugarte leads, with Chino Darín. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 71 percent. Jonathan Holland in The Hollywood Reporter reached a balanced verdict: a great deal of satisfying complexity but little depth, and still a fun ride on a highly calibrated roller coaster. It opened on 30 November 2018 and reached Netflix on 22 March 2019, picking up two Gaudí Award nominations in 2019. Anurag Kashyap remade it in India in 2022 as Dobaaraa, and an Indonesian version followed in 2025. Who it is for: viewers who like a puzzle-box setup and follow Spanish thrillers. Who it is not for: anyone unforgiving about logic. The film moves fast enough to jump over several gaps.
