What The Cat in the Bag Is About
A young journalist is unhappy with the society he lives in. He thinks at length about what he could do about it. The film puts that thinking in the place of a plot. The account is taken as standing for the political coming of age of the people of Quebec. A personal crisis and a period in a society move forward at the same time. It is one of the signs of a new vein in Canadian cinema in 1964. The seventy five minutes are spent largely inside one person’s head. Claude Godbout and Barbara Ulrich appear in Gilles Groulx’s Canadian film, completed in 1964.
