The Cheat

A well known cabaret performer is killed in Bordeaux and Inspector Verta takes the case. Verta is married with a child and carries a side of himself he has told nobody about; during the investigation he falls in love with Bernard, a young musician. The relationship stays hidden at first, then becomes known to the people around him, and both his marriage and his view of the case are shaken. Things grow worse when the young man accidentally causes the death of the killer. Yannick Bellon tells a subject nobody spoke about in those years from inside the shape of a police film, and passes judgement on nobody. Victor Lanoux and Anny Duperey appear in the hundred minute French film, completed in 1984.
