The Last Supper

Five graduate students invite a guest to dinner every Sunday for an argument. One evening the man who arrives turns out to be dangerous and the fight ends in his death. Afterwards the group makes a strange decision: since it has happened once, it could continue in the service of improving the world. The list begins with open threats and narrows to opinions they simply disagree with. Stacy Title builds it as black comedy and aims at both sides, at well-meaning intellectuals who cannot see their own intolerance. Cameron Diaz, Annabeth Gish and Ron Perlman are in the cast. The dinner scenes are shot with a rhythm carried over from theatre. The ending turns the premise back on itself. Who it is for: viewers who like black comedy and political satire. Who it is not for: anyone wanting a clear moral side, since the film vindicates nobody.
