Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery

The second Benoit Blanc case looks like an island party, yet there is no island. Miles Bron’s house is Villa 20 at the Amanzoe resort near Porto Heli, on the Peloponnese mainland; the glass dome is a visual effect and the interiors were built on soundstages in Belgrade. At its midpoint the film stops and replays its own first half from Helen’s side. Johnson came to the identical twin device reluctantly, and says a repeat earns its place only if it brings new tension, not a new angle. In practice the first hour is withheld from you on purpose. Blanc calls the murder scheme simple himself, and the energy goes into the portrait of Bron rather than into clues. An artist in Belgrade painted the Mona Lisa replica. Johnson says a copy of a famous work must be destroyed after shooting and the burning documented, because of the counterfeit market. A coda at the Louvre, showing the real painting intact, was cut. Netflix played it in roughly six hundred cinemas for one week in November 2022 and refused to report grosses. A good fit if you take the midpoint restart as the architecture rather than a cheat. Not for anyone who wants clues shared evenly with the audience, since Blanc ends up calling the scheme itself dumb.
