What Eddington Is About
Ari Aster's 2025 film covers a small town in New Mexico during the pandemic. The sheriff and the mayor come into conflict. Social media divides the town. The film moves the western onto current political ground; the narrative makes conspiracy belief and polarisation its real subject. Joaquin Phoenix and Pedro Pascal lead. It was selected for competition at Cannes. The tone slides from black comedy into violence. Who it's for: those who like uncomfortable political satire. Who it's not for: viewers troubled by sudden, graphic violence; the film uses it heavily in its final section.
