What The Chechahcos Is About
A fire breaks out on a ship bound for Alaska. On board are prospectors and adventurers on their way north. In the confusion Mrs Stanlaw is separated from her young daughter. The child ends up in the care of Riley, known as Horseshoe, and Bob Dexter. The story is set in the years of the Klondike gold rush. The film was shot entirely in Alaska and was the first feature to be made that way. Its producer, Austin E. Lathrop, had once been a prospector himself. The company he set up made no other film. Lewis H. Moomaw’s eighty seven minute American film was completed in 1924.
