What The Children of the Century Is About
Paris, 1832. Two words are going round: romanticism and revolution. The Baroness Dudevant writes under the name George Sand and is becoming known in Paris. Alfred de Musset is young, gifted, and has a tongue nobody escapes. They meet. Literature binds them together and what is between them turns quickly into passion. Then they go to Venice together and it all comes apart there: Musset disappears into drink and opium, and Sand draws close to the doctor treating him. Diane Kurys directs, with Juliette Binoche as Sand and Benoît Magimel as Musset, and Stefano Dionisi as the doctor. It comes from a real affair; the letters and the books of both writers came out of it.
