What The Citizen Is About
Ibrahim Jarrah wants to leave a hard life in the Middle East behind and wins the United States Green Card lottery. He lands in New York the day before the eleventh of September. The next morning the city is a different place, and his route to citizenship turns into something else, because from then on his name, his accent and where he came from arrive at every door before he does. Sam Kadi's first feature stays on his shoulder and, instead of building suspense, keeps returning to one question about where a person is counted as one of us. Khaled El Nabawy leads.
