The Citizen

Wilson is a man in his fifties. He is a political refugee from Africa. He lives in Hungary and wants citizenship. For that he sits an examination. A committee faces him. The questions are detailed and hard. He recites Hungarian poetry beautifully. Some of the questions he cannot answer. He fails the exam again. This is not his first attempt. The chairman of the committee also questions his motives. He asks why he left his own country. Wilson describes the violence he fled. What he says does not soften the committee. The film sets citizenship on paper against citizenship in fact. Cake-Baly Marcelo and Ágnes Máhr appear in the hundred and eight minute film, a Hungarian production Roland Vranik finished in 2017.
