What The Civil War on Drugs Is About
Two stoners are convinced the American Civil War is being fought over legalising marijuana and set out to persuade Lincoln of it, running into the Union army, Confederate troops, the Pony Express and eventually the president himself. Directed by Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, it is the work of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U' Know and originally went out in segments during the fifth season of their show before being assembled into a feature. The humour is crude, the history entirely invented, and the film makes no claim otherwise. Its main draw now is curiosity about Cregger before his later horror films. Who it is for: viewers who like sketch comedy and historical parody. Who it is not for: anyone expecting a coherent film, since the structure was compiled from television episodes.
