What The Client Is About
A man is arrested as the prime suspect in his wife's death. There is no body, but the evidence points at him. Kang Seong-hee, a well-known defence lawyer, takes the case, and across from him is a prosecutor who gives nothing away; the reckoning between the two in the courtroom is the spine of the film. The lawyer's own question is narrower: does he actually want to know whether his client is innocent? This is one of the less-discussed but solidly built Korean courtroom thrillers, and it ends by leaving you with the question rather than reassuring you. Ha Jung-woo is the lawyer, Park Hee-soon the prosecutor, Jang Hyuk the accused; Sohn Young-sung directs.
