The Collector

Lucjan Böhme is a bailiff working in a Silesian town whose factories have closed. The job is to go into debtors' homes and take whatever is there: the television, the fridge, the washing machine. He pities nobody and listens to nobody, and that is why he does well. One day a woman in a house he visits kills herself. He does not take it on, and still something starts to slip. What follows is the story of a man trying to settle a debt, and the debt is not money. Feliks Falk directs; ninety-three minutes, with Andrzej Chyra as Lucjan. Falk had filmed the same question in the seventies; here he asks it again in a region whose industry has collapsed: can a person be as hard as the job requires.
