What Top Dog Is About
Lutek Danielak is a master of ceremonies working small provincial halls. When the job of running the big city ball opens up he treats it as the chance of his life, and there is nothing he will not do to get it: lying, informing, throwing mud at his closest friend. Feliks Falk watches how far the will to climb takes a man, and watches it on Jerzy Stuhr’s face. The film is among the sharpest of the Polish cinema of moral anxiety of the seventies, loading everything that could not be said openly about the system onto the character of one man.
