What The Dance of Reality Is About
Alejandro Jodorowsky films his own childhood: Tocopilla, the town on the edge of the Chilean desert where he was born in 1929, the unhappy years inside an uprooted Jewish family, a brutal father and a mother who delivers every line as opera. This is not a memoir film, though; he distorts the memories on purpose, walks into the frame as his present day self and reaches out to comfort the child. His son Brontis plays the father. Personal and overflowing, and interested in settling with reality rather than documenting it.
