What The Dead Mother Is About
Ismael breaks into a picture restorer’s house, kills her, and shoots her small daughter as well. Twenty years later that daughter is an adult who cannot speak and lives in a care home, and Ismael is working behind a bar. When they happen to meet, he convinces himself she has recognised him and will go to the police, and with his girlfriend Maite he takes her away and holds her. The strange bond that forms between them keeps stopping him from doing what he keeps threatening to do. Juanma Bajo Ulloa wrote it with his brother Eduardo; it took best director at Montreal and a Goya for special effects in Spain.
