The Diplomat

On 5 May 2017 a woman runs into the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Her name is Uzma Ahmed, she is an Indian citizen, and she says she was forced into a marriage in Pakistan, subjected to violence, and wants to go home. Deputy High Commissioner J.P. Singh faces a single question: trust the claim and enter a diplomatic crisis between two countries, or send her out. Shivam Nair adapts a real case and tells it through bureaucracy rather than action. The tension is not in a weapon but in paperwork, permissions and a court ruling. The narrative centres the hearing in the Pakistani court and shows at every step how fragile the woman's testimony is. John Abraham plays Singh and Sadia Khateeb plays Uzma. The film opened in March 2025 and later went to Netflix. Who it's for: Viewers who like diplomatic and legal thrillers, and Indian drama drawn from real events. Who it's not for: The telling builds a nationalist frame and the Pakistani side stays one-dimensional. The account of violence and abuse is also heavy.
