What The Discreet Is About
A writer who has been left by his girlfriend and cannot find a line for his next novel comes up with a plan alongside his publisher friend: he will seduce a young woman, keep a daily record of the seduction, then drop her and publish the diary. The experiment begins. The difficulty is that while the plan is working he actually falls in love, which makes him the subject of his own experiment. Christian Vincent's first film is about a man who lives by words taking cover behind them. Fabrice Luchini is the writer and Judith Henry the young woman he has written into his calculation. It runs on conversation, and it lets courtesy and cruelty sit inside the same sentence.
