What The Earth's Most Beloved Son Is About
The life story of a prisoner awaiting trial: Victor Petrini, a promising intellectual and philosophy lecturer in the fifties, is arrested by the political police. The espionage charge is baseless, but he is sentenced to prison and forced labour. Serban Marinescu's 1993 film was adapted from a well known Romanian novel and was among the first major productions to speak directly about the repression of the communist period. Stefan Iordache, Gheorghe Dinica and Maia Morgenstern are in the cast. Made immediately after the regime fell, its tone carries a need to tell as much as a reckoning.
