The Eighth Day of the Week

The story is set in Warsaw after the war. Much of the city is in ruins. The shortage of housing is severe. Everyone lives in crowded rooms. Two young people are in love. They cannot find anywhere to be alone. What they want is simple. A room, a door, a little quiet. Finding it is close to impossible. The film shows daily life as it was. The gap between what they dream of and what they have is plain. It was banned in Poland in 1958. For a year it could not be shown anywhere. Then it opened in Europe. Zbigniew Cybulski and Sonja Ziemann appear in the eighty three minute film, a German and Polish production Aleksander Ford finished in 1958.
