The Encampments

Kei Pritsker and Michael T. Workman's 2025 documentary covers a protest encampment set up at a university in New York. The students demand that the university divest from certain companies; as the camp grows the administration calls the police and the events spread across the country. The documentary was shot from inside the camp and stands with the organisers. Meetings, decisions and internal arguments are recorded directly; the arrests and suspensions form the second half. The film's position is open. Very little room is given to the reasoning of the administration or of students who disagreed; the documentary does not present a debate but leaves testimony on behalf of one side, and does not hide that. Who it's for: those interested in student movements and contemporary political documentary. Who it's not for: viewers expecting a many-sided account; the film looks from a single position and gives no room to the other side.
