Marija, eleven years old, is on a train deporting her family to Siberia. When her pregnant mother dies on the way, a woman gets her off the train in secret and tells her one thing: walk west, towards where the sun sets, towards Lithuania. That is how the child covers thousands of kilometres back. The film was the first Lithuanian work of fiction to take up the Soviet deportations, and it started from a real case. The account does not turn the child into a symbol; it shows every day of the road as a separate problem. Anastasija Marcenkaite plays the lead in Audrius Juzenas’s hundred and ten minute Lithuanian film, completed in 2013.
