In 1977 NASA launched two probes: Voyager 1 and Voyager 2. The mission was to study the outer planets. Both did, then kept going and left the solar system. The documentary tells the mission through the engineers and scientists who built it, not on the technical side but on how decisions taken forty years ago reached the present. What the film gives most room to is the Golden Record. At Carl Sagan's instigation, a recording was placed on each probe: greetings in more than fifty languages, music from across the world, and photographs of humanity. A message sent without any expectation that anyone would find it. The documentary treats that gesture as a cultural decision rather than a scientific one. Directed by Emer Reynolds, the Irish production premiered at the Dublin Film Festival on 26 February 2017. Who it's for: Anyone interested in the history of space exploration, NASA missions, and scientists telling their own story. Who it's not for: The telling is emotional and admiring with no critical view. It also stays shallow for viewers wanting technical depth.
