The Frontier

Ramiro is a Chilean teacher. His sentence is internal exile. The place he is sent to is a town in the south. Tidal waves come to that town often. There Ramiro falls for a woman called Maite. Maite’s father asks him to take her away from there. In the end Ramiro gets his freedom. But he does not leave. When the water rises Maite and her father die. Ramiro flees to the hills. The sentence of exile remakes his life from the ground up. The waves and the water make their weight felt inside the account. Alonso Venegas and Héctor Noguera are also in the cast. Patricio Contreras and Gloria Laso take the leads in Ricardo Larraín’s Chilean and Spanish coproduction of 1991.
