What The Garden of Earthly Delights Is About
An art historian with a terminal illness meets an engineer and a strong bond forms between them at once. But her illness hangs over the attachment and the time left is known. She chooses to spend that time not by withdrawing but by concentrating it, and takes her lover to Venice; there the work of the painter she has been studying becomes the background to everything between them. The film does not make illness a subject for drama; it keeps looking, desire and the shrinking of time in the same place. Part of the account proceeds in the form of video recordings. Claudine Spiteri plays the lead in Lech Majewski’s hundred and three minute film, completed in 2004.
