What The Gardener's Year Is About
A gardener and his wife living at the foot of a hill lead a quiet life, working their nursery by the rhythm of the seasons. Then the new owner of the castle sets about reorganising the estate and asks the couple to sell their garden business. When they refuse he puts up barbed wire and places a guard on the entrance road. What follows is the quiet struggle of two people to stay on their own land. The film tells the question of property not through grand statements but through the daily work of a garden, and draws its humour from there too. Oldrich Kaiser plays the lead in Jiri Havelka’s hundred and four minute Czech film, completed in 2024.
