The Girl from the Third Row

Sture Anker is a theatre director. He has staged a play he wrote himself. The play is about the meaninglessness of life. He played the lead in it as well. The audience leaves the hall out of boredom. Sture waits for the reviews in the empty theatre. He believes he is alone. A girl makes herself known out of the darkness. She says she has come from the third row. Then she begins to tell him a story. The story is of a ring passing from hand to hand. Over ten years the ring calls on many people. Actors, embezzlers, old women and deceived husbands carry it. Each of them finds some hope in it for a while. What the girl is after is to show that life is not meaningless. Hasse Ekman and Eva Henning appear in the eighty eight minute film, a Swedish production Hasse Ekman finished in 1949.
