The Gray Wolves

The account is set in 1964. In that year the leadership of the Soviet Union changed. Nikita Khrushchev was removed from office. Leonid Brezhnev took his place. The film tells how that change was prepared. The work is carried on while Khrushchev is away on holiday. Men at the top come to an agreement among themselves. A security officer notices what is going on. The man is called Sorokin. What he finds out puts him in danger. Some of the dialogue was taken from archive papers. Khrushchev’s son worked on the screenplay. Rolan Bykov and Aleksandr Belyavskiy take the leads, with Lev Durov and Bohdan Stupka also in the cast, in Igor Gostev’s Russian film of 1993.
