What The Green Planet Is About
A nature documentary about the forest of central Europe; the crew spent six years and six hundred shooting days on it, worked at seventy separate locations in Germany, Austria and Denmark, and gathered two hundred and fifty hours of footage. Slow motion, time lapse and telescopic lenses bring in much smaller inhabitants alongside the red deer, the fox and the wild boar: purple emperor butterflies, liverworts, stag beetles. Grass cutting up through snow, flowers opening, a fox den with new cubs and the turn of the seasons. Jan Haft directed and Benno Fürmann narrates. It opened in Germany on 13 September 2012. Its international title is The Green Planet, though what it is about is a forest rather than a planet.
