What The Hand Behind the Mouse: The Ub Iwerks Story Is About
Mickey Mouse is a figure everyone in the world knows. But the man who drew him went unknown for a long time. That man was Ub Iwerks. He was Walt Disney’s closest friend. They began working together when they were very young. It was he who set the shape and the movement of the character. He drew most of the early films on his own. Then their paths parted for a while. He tried running a studio of his own. Years later he went back to Disney. This time he worked on the technical side. He developed new methods in camera and optical work. The documentary was made by his granddaughter. John Lasseter and Chuck Jones speak in the ninety minute film, an American production Leslie Iwerks finished in 1999.
