The Highway

The film tells a single day on a railway line. The capacity of the line is below what is needed and the system runs under strain. On that day there is a disaster: a passenger train hits a tanker train, the driver’s assistant is killed and the section is closed for a long time. The film does not look for the responsible party in one person; it looks at the order that led to the accident. Under what pressure decisions were taken and who knew what are shown one by one. The hierarchy inside a line of work is the real subject. It comes from the vein of Soviet cinema of 1983 that took up production and responsibility. Kirill Lavrov and Lyudmila Gurchenko appear in Viktor Tregubovich’s eighty eight minute Soviet film, completed in 1983.
