Dauria

The film is set in a small village in the Baikal region. The time is the eve of the First World War. The October Revolution follows. The old order of the village starts to come apart. The distance between people widens. Some go off to defend the revolution. Others take the opposite side. At the centre of the account is a young Cossack. He is called Roman Ulybin. At first he has only one concern. Will the girl he loves, Dashutka, marry him. Or will she marry Alyoshka, the merchant’s son. He fights his rival with his fists. In time he sees that the world around him has changed. Vitali Solomin and Vasiliy Shukshin take the leads in Viktor Tregubovich’s Soviet film of 1972.
