The History of Future Folk

The planet Hondo is about to be destroyed by a comet. General Trius is sent to claim Earth for his people; his plan is to wipe out humanity with a virus. He lands, walks through a shop, and hears music for the first time in his life. There is no music on Hondo. Trius abandons his mission, settles into a bar in New York and starts playing banjo. Then the planet sends a second soldier. The film by Jeremy Kipp Walker and John Mitchell rests on a real group: Future Folk, a two-man New York band who take the stage in helmets made from plastic buckets and tell the story of their arrival from space in song. The film turns that stage act's origin story into a feature. Nils d'Aulaire and Jay Klaitz are both the members of the band and the leads of the film. Who it's for: Viewers who like low-budget independent comedy, musical films, and narratives built on odd premises. Who it's not for: The budget shows in every scene and the effects are rough. The narrative also starts repeating its premise after a point.
