What The House of the Bories Is About
Julien, a well known geologist, lives in a house in the country with his wife Isabelle and their two children. His sullen, uncompromising manner keeps the air of the house tense. The arrival of Carl-Stephane, a young German student, changes that air. The house lightens all at once and the way everyone looks at everyone else shifts. The film’s interest is less in events than in the tension collecting inside the house. The closed order of a country household is the real subject. The story is adapted from a novel. Marie Dubois, Maurice Garrel and Mathieu Carrière appear in Jacques Doniol-Valcroze’s eighty seven minute French film, completed in 1970.
